01 / GETTING_STARTED

Start without
the confusion.

01

Do I need technical knowledge to use HollowNet?

Not necessarily. The Hestia Control Panel provides a web interface for common hosting tasks, such as managing websites, databases, and domains. Some tasks may still require guidance, but you don't need to be a server administrator to get started.

02

How do I get started?

Tell us a little about your project and what you want to build. We'll discuss a suitable hosting configuration, the domain setup, and the practical details before anything is configured.

03

What can I use HollowNet hosting for?

Depending on the available configuration, you can host personal websites, portfolios, WordPress sites, small business websites, and development projects that use supported technologies. If you have a particular application in mind, ask us about its requirements first.

04

Is HollowNet a large hosting company?

No. HollowNet is an independent web infrastructure project built around practical hosting, learning, and experimentation. The available setup and level of assistance depend on the individual project.

02 / HOSTING

Your hosting.
Your setup.

HOST / CORE
05

What is included in a hosting configuration?

The configurations describe indicative resource limits, such as storage, websites, databases, DNS zones, and scheduled tasks. SSL certificate support and access to Hestia Control Panel are also part of the intended setup. The exact arrangement is discussed before your project is configured.

06

Can I host WordPress?

Yes, WordPress can run in a compatible PHP and database environment. Before setting up a site, make sure the selected configuration supports the PHP version and resources required by your WordPress installation and plugins.

07

Can I change my configuration later?

If your project grows, we can discuss changing its configuration or moving it to a setup with more resources. Changes depend on available capacity and compatibility, so an upgrade should be agreed before it takes place.

08

Are the configurations fixed packages?

They're starting points rather than a promise that every project must fit the same setup. Contact us with your requirements and we'll discuss which configuration makes sense and what can realistically be provided.

03 / DOMAINS_DNS

Your domain.
Your choice.

DNS / FLEXIBLE
09

Do I need to register my domain through HollowNet?

No. You can register a domain with a registrar of your choice and connect it to your website hosting. Domain registration and hosting are separate services, and domain costs depend on the registrar and extension.

10

Can I use Cloudflare?

Yes. You can keep your DNS with Cloudflare or another external DNS provider. The relevant records must be configured correctly to point your domain to the appropriate hosting service.

11

Can I manage DNS through HollowNet?

DNS management through the hosting environment may be available as part of your chosen configuration. You can also keep DNS with an external provider. The appropriate option depends on how your domain is set up.

12

Do I have to transfer my domain?

No. In most cases, you can leave your domain with your existing registrar and update its DNS records or nameservers as needed. A domain transfer is a separate process and is not normally required just to change where a website is hosted.

04 / EMAIL

Keep your email
your way.

MAIL / EXTERNAL
13

Does HollowNet include email hosting?

Email hosting is not included in the listed hosting configurations. This lets you choose a separate email provider that suits your needs while keeping your website hosted with HollowNet.

14

Can I use a different email provider?

Yes. You can use a separate email service and configure the necessary DNS records for it. Keep in mind that website records and email records serve different purposes, so both need to be configured correctly.

05 / DEVELOPERS

Build your way.
Go deeper.

DEV / TOOLS
15

What programming languages are supported?

PHP-based websites and applications are the main focus of the current hosting setup. Available PHP versions and other runtime options depend on the server configuration. Ask before deploying an application that requires a specific language or runtime.

16

Do I get database access?

Database resources are included according to the selected configuration. They're useful for WordPress and other applications that store content or application data in a database.

17

What is SSH access?

SSH provides secure command-line access to a system. Developers can use it for tasks such as working with files, running supported commands, and managing certain development workflows. SSH access is subject to the chosen configuration and must be arranged where appropriate.

18

What are cron jobs?

Cron jobs schedule commands or scripts to run automatically at specified times or intervals. They can be useful for maintenance, recurring scripts, and application tasks. The number available depends on the selected configuration.

06 / SECURITY_RECOVERY

Protect what
you build.

SEC / RECOVERY
19

Can my website use HTTPS?

SSL/TLS certificates can secure the connection between your website and its visitors through HTTPS. Certificate setup and renewal depend on your domain and hosting configuration, so these details should be confirmed when your website is configured.

20

Are backups available?

Backup arrangements are part of the hosting setup discussion. The configurations list indicative backup slots, but a slot count alone doesn't describe the backup schedule, storage location, retention period, or restoration process. Confirm these details before relying on a backup for recovery.

21

How many backup slots are listed?

The indicative configurations list 1 slot for Starter, 3 for Developer, and 5 for Business. These numbers describe the listed configurations, not a guarantee of a particular backup schedule or recovery time. Confirm what will actually be configured for your project.

22

What should I do to protect my website?

Keep your application, themes, and plugins updated; use strong, unique passwords; and limit access to what is necessary. Maintain backups you can access and restore, and avoid storing sensitive information unless your application and setup are appropriate for handling it.
